Experimentation with color and surfaces, a quest for interesting subject matter, and explorations into diverse and rich southwestern traditions inspire Gene's furniture creations, paintings, murals, and sculpture.

Gene McClain-2

This artist's rule is to amuse himself with subject matter, design, and color! Art degrees from the University of Kansas in 1968 and 1974 have led to a lifetime of making things.

His series include skulls and New Mexico culture, cowboy and cowgirl southwestern life, adult signature chairs, and children's furniture. His most recent amusement is a play on "Route 66" and "clasical car" themes, inspired by this special place and a special place in time.

In 1999 Gene received the "Most Unique Design Award" at the Northern New Mexico Woodworker Guild Winter Show".

A retired teacher, Gene lives in Placitas, NM.
