About the Artist

Eugenia Reilly worked as an Itinerant Elementary Art Teacher for the Albuquerque Public Schools for the past 24 years before retiring and turning to her own art work. “All the clothes I make are out of recycled and re-purposed materials; I use copper, brass, aluminum, saved for years by my students and colleagues. While out walking I often find many interesting things that can be turned into articles of clothing – wire, screening, lath, roofing materials, and metal ceiling tiles. I re-purpose my grandmother’s old tins, metal kitchen utensils, baskets, and old screens from my house which was built in 1942.” “My focus with the clothing is to create an open-ended, playful or whimsical sculpture that has a feeling of movement. I also enjoy the challenge of working with hard materials to create a feeling of softness. I also try to incorporate the idea of gender roles within.”
